After twenty rounds of fast-paced, captivating and athletic netball, the regular Vitality Netball Superleague 2021 season came to its conclusion in Round 20, as many teams took to court for their final match of the season. With the announcement that Leeds Rhinos would be advanced to the semi-finals and were unable to play their remaining regular fixtures, Round 20 was not the thrilling race to the finish we anticipated earlier in the season, yet some team’s really had saved the best for last as we saw some outstanding performances throughout the court.
It’s been quite the week in the Vitality Netball Superleague. We’ve had a postponed match, two cancelled matches and the adherence to a pre-season agreement between clubs that determined the outcome of the most exciting race for finals since the League’s inception.
Rounds 17 and 18 marked the first time the Vitality Netball Superleague was able to welcome crowds in over 400 days. A few hundred lucky fans, including some of your Netball Scoop UK team, were able to head to London’s Copper Box Arena to witness ten thrilling encounters, which had a significant impact on the remainder of the season and who would take the last remaining spot in finals.
After sixteen rounds of the Vitality Netball SuperLeague, two teams have secured their spot in the semi finals. With a sixteen goal win over Surrey Storm, Team Bath were the first to book their finals ticket and can no longer finish outside the top four after securing fifteen wins from sixteen games so far this season.
It was business as usual in Round 15 of the Vitality Netball SuperLeague for our top four teams, with Team Bath, Manchester Thunder, Loughborough Lightning and Wasps all putting another three points on the board and increasing the distance between them and their competitors.
It's been a meteoric rise for Donnell Wallam, but the sharp shooter from country Western Australia is taking it all in her stride. And while she's currently a long way from home - playing with the Leeds Rhinos in the Vitality Netball Superleague, Donnell's family and heritage are never far from her mind.
