Ava Black has ruptured her ACL 🙁
in reply to: 2024/25 Silver Ferns Squad #1381865Sorry not sure where to post this- Kristiana Manu’a and Renee Savai’inaea both named for Samoa for this year’s PacificAus series.
Can’t remember if Savai’inaea has played for Samoa before, but this is definitely Manu’a’s first time- and third nation!
in reply to: Netball Scoop World’s Best Netballer 2024 #1381817Shamera and Latanya tying for first seems right! Clearly the top 2 in the world but so hard to separate, this is the most fitting result. Notable omissions- Horjus, considering she got POTY, and Liz Watson, just because she’s Liz Watson! Also thought Jamie-Lee Price would’ve picked up more votes.
Incredibly surprised that Pearson and Tchine got votes- they were solid domestically and internationally, but they wouldn’t even have made my top 15. Maybe in another year or two. I’d consider Aryang, Horjus, Liz Watson, Housby, and Fran Williams, ahead of them. Could just be an Aussie bias though!
I think Liam Forcadilla got scammed 😂 he was a consistent standout, including throughout Fast5. Punshon would’ve been second for me.
So hard to narrow it down, but my votes would’ve been: Wilson 5, Sterling-Humphrey 4, Fadoju 3, Nweke 2, Garbin 1.
Although I could easily have included Austin, Price, and JFN.Thanks for all the work you guys at NS put into these lists, we really appreciate it!
in reply to: Australian Diamonds Squad 2024/25 #1381712Diamonds camp on at the moment- good to see Wallam there, and ATN, Austin, RBD still there as invitees.
No Bruce or Weston- wonder if it’s injury or holiday-related. I doubt it’s holiday- Kiera Austin is there instead of going on a honeymoon!in reply to: Merry Christmas #1381617Merry Christmas! Unfortunately no netty gifts, but I’m hoping to get some new netball shoes and some Diamonds merch in the sales. If anyone has netball-related book recommendations I would greatly appreciate those!
in reply to: 2025 SUNCORP SUPER NETBALL #1381582Another Firebird off to Lightning in Rylee Burns!
Also, Zoe Cransberg announced aa Fever’s 11th player. Good midcourt depth and she’s such a talented player.
in reply to: 2025 ANZ PREMIERSHIP #1381503Katrina Rore to play for one last season? I think she’s living in Aus atm but one last hurrah would be fun!
in reply to: 2024 Australian Netball Awards #1381433Mannix and Price unlucky to miss out on recognition, especially the latter, though it was extremely competitive and all were worthy winners.
Surprised but pleased to see Horjus as POTY- first Australian in SSN era to win it! She was a barometer for Tbirds and near unstoppable in either position, but I really thought Wilson would take it out.
Delightful surprise to see Ervin named as defensive reserve, she never even crossed my mind but so well deserved.
Austin and Garbin would both have been deserving of the LED, but Garbin’s consistency internationally probably got her over the line- Austin’s Con Cup campaign let her down.
A very exciting array of awardees!
Ward had an absolute ripper series- working alongside Sterling-Humphrey and Wilson probably gives you the best possible chance to win ball! She did go down with a painful ankle injury, come back on, and then go off again in the last game, so hopefully she’s okay.
Allison has been solid, but IMO she’s a little overrated and the comparisons to Guthrie aren’t warranted. Her attack has been a bit lacklustre but she’s been doing a great job of flying for intercepts and standing up to physical play.
in reply to: 2024 SUNCORP SUPER NETBALL #1381364According to Wallam’s Insta story, the Netball Australia awards are this weekend. I wish they’d stream them or at least give us some details about them! What are people’s predictions, especially for Liz Ellis Diamond and Rookie of the Year? I’m predicting Kiera Austin and Walters (if she got enough exposure) or Frew, or maybe Mi Mi.
Interesting- someone on instagram commented on Netball Jamaica’s post “what about Shimona being brought into the team?” And they replied “she will be in soon.”
Housby had an incredible second game, bit stiff to miss out on POTM. Fadoju, while less consistent, produced important turnovers that really gave England momentum.
Wilson and Sterling-Humphrey both benched at different points!Jamaica Starting 7:
GS Aiken-George
GA S.Beckford
WA Dixon
C Plummer
WD Wilson
GD Ward
GK Sterling-HumphreyBench: T.Beckford, Creary, Dehaney, Sutherland, Williams
She did! In at GD 🙂
NetballPass!
Also, Jamaican starting lineup was Aiken-George/Beckford/Williams/Plummer/Wilson/Ward/Sterling-Humphrey.
