Not a fan of Vixen’s version of the rainbow bibs.
For some reason, it’s different to everyone else’s.
1/4 time: Vixens 15-13
7 super shot attempts by both teams in the closing minutes of the 1st Q and only one successful but that’s enough to see Vixens up by 2. They’ve generally had the better of things with Firebirds having 6 turnovers to 4.
I think the Vixens’ one is related to the logo for Everyone Belongs, which is ‘Netball Victoria’s four pillars of inclusion.’ I quite like it to be honest, the pink font on the Mavericks’ one did my head in!
Very poor start to the second Q from the Firebirds and Vixens are taking full advantage. They lead 28-19. Veve and Dwan are now off and Ravaillion and Emily Moore are on.
1/2 time: Vixens 35-25
A dominant 2nd Q sees Vixens jump out to a 10 goal lead. Hannah Mundy has 13 assists and no turnovers, while Sophie Garbin is starring at GS. Lara Dunkley is being left to do too much of the attacking work for Firebirds. Jo Weston has done a brilliant job in defence, and had Dwan relegated to the bench.
Vixens: 32/41 (SS: 3/8)
Firebirds: 23/30 (SS: 2/5)Gains: VIX 10-7
Penalties: FIR 30-20
Turnovers: FIR 10-5Would love to see Veve in C, for me Gardner isn’t offering much at all today.
Vixens time out. All of a sudden the errors are mounting up in the Vixens attack and Firebirds are pouncing with 6 straight goals. Vixens 45-36
3/4 time: Vixens 49-42
A Kiera Austin super shot in the final seconds was badly needed by the Vixens. Halfway through that Q, the lead was 14, but then a mix of Firebirds lifting and maybe Vixens taking things easy, saw the margin cut to 5.
Firebirds managed to reduce the lead to just 4 early in the last Q, before a few costly turnovers gave Vixens some breathing space again.
Sophie Garbin is proving to be the difference. As solid as a rock on the baseline.
Vixens 62-52
Garbin was outstanding this game, such a calm, strong target when Austin was a bit off her game from half time. Nice to see the Vixens fight back in the last quarter.
Full time: Vixens 68-55
A good win for Vixens to maintain their unbeaten record. They finished with more gains than turnovers which is always a good sign. Firebirds gave them a bit of a fright for a period but Vixens dug deep. POTM Hannah Mundy
Surprised Mundy was POTM, she was great the first half but Rav was all over her in the second.
I agree, Garbin was unstoppable and even Weston got Dwan benched!
Yes, she would have been my POTM.
