in reply to: 2020 SSN ROUND 5 – LIGHTNING v GIANTS #1309166
Omg what an absolute shambles. The decision to send her permanently off was way too harsh. Perhaps tv replay should be available for permanent sendings off because reducing a team to 6 makes a huge difference to the match. However I think the coach was stupid to keep her on after the original suspension.
Wilson in VNSL isn’t the only example, remember Ioane in ANZP? Even without the sendings off once a player is on the umpire radar you have to take them off, Kadeen Corbin in Glasgow 2014 is a prime example of that.
Giants panicked too much. All they had to do was score on their centre pass. They could have held on. I do feel that the lightning only won that because of the sending off.
in reply to: 2020 SSN ROUND 2 – FIREBIRDS v VIXENS #1307763That was so dull. The messing about with shooters for the last 5 minutes doesn’t work. Expecting a player that’s had little court time to come on an immediately sink those pressure 2 point shots is just daft. Simpson at GD was just the dumbest decision. The only positive thing about the match was the Kits. Easier to see the players, unlike the Giants Thunderbirds match.
in reply to: 2020 ANZP ROUND 9 – STEEL v MYSTICS #1307662I’m not surprised by the Steel win. I thought they could have done it before, but O’Connell kept messing about instead of turning and shooting. If I were the coach I’d be looking for a tall GS that can work with McCollin and doesn’t flake under pressure.
in reply to: 2 POINT SHOT! #1307571How many of those 2 point goals were true long bombs? Many seemed to be mid range.
in reply to: 2020 SSN ROUND 1 – THUNDERBIRDS v FEVER #1307180I prefer the super shot to timeouts. At least they are edited out on the replay. The stop start is horrible. It was bad enough when players faked an injury to break the flow of the opposition, but these tactical timeouts really are a step backwards.
in reply to: 2020 ANZP ROUND 7 – PULSE v STARS #1306671I think stars did really well. Yes that last push by Pulse meant a 10 goal difference but it took them quite some time to be able to do that. Worth remembering that Hume and Wilson is a new partnership and Hume spent a lot of time on the bench at Steel and Mystics. I think that partnership will grow. This is MRB first season starting each match with the C bib. And the circle defence is a new partnership too. If they can keep everyone then 2021 should see better results.
in reply to: 2020 ANZP ROUND 7 – PULSE v MAGIC #1306667Losing Mather was a mistake. I don’t understand why they recruited Mikaere. Seems a panic buy with Kopua going. The shooting end is so inexperienced. Last season there was a lot of pressure on Falkner when really she’s still very young and still learning her craft. Bird or Dunn would just mean the same problem. Unless an experienced NZ GS wants to move they need to look to who they can poach from VNSL. Inexperienced young Aussie GS is not going to be a solution either.
in reply to: 2020 ANZP ROUND 7 – PULSE v MAGIC #1306604Oh dear. Poor magic. Next season they need a strong experienced WD so Tong and Fowler are in the circle and Winders is at C. And they need to recruit an experienced accurate GS.
in reply to: 2020 ANZP ROUND 6 – STEEL v TACTIX #1306465Did Steel drop Elliot or did she decide to leave?
in reply to: 2020 ANZP ROUND 6 – STEEL v MAGIC #1306406Steel and magic are the two teams whose pre season recruitment decisions have been quite odd.
in reply to: 2020 ANZP ROUND 6 – PULSE v TACTIX #1306396That was a great game. However for me it highlights that the new short pass rule is really poor.
in reply to: 2020 ANZP ROUND 6 – PULSE v MYSTICS #1306329I think the main problem is that Mystics has become a one trick pony. Their game plan is just lob it into the very tall GS who will only shoot from under the post. One on one marking is the way to break down their attack. Its their strong defence in the circle thats really been giving them the wins.
Great, except half our squad aren’t getting any games. Thanks Covid.?
in reply to: 2020 ANZP ROUND 6 – MYSTICS v STARS #1306289Great game. Felt the Stars defensive pressure fell off in that last quarter. Not so many hands up making it difficult.
in reply to: 2020 ANZP ROUND 4 – PULSE v MAGIC #1305941So if Latu-Meafou didn’t have dual nationality both Magic shooters would have been stuck in Australia? Marshall isn’t allowed in and go through quarantine Yet Brits have visited New Zealand and bought covid with them. How strange.
