With Gina taking some leave, it almost guarantees Meel’s return as Captain. I don’t see them choosing another captain in as many years- and vc Sulu was benched in the bronze final, and the team was seamless.

Both Jane and certainly Karin are uncertain. Which leaves the door open for Temu, and potentially Manu’a. The midcourt is exciting. Noel’s sometimes relies on experience too much which has limited the amount of form players getting an opportunity. Hopefully this changes things.

Honestly England have the young talent there. They just need a coach willing to make some bold calls and leave out some experience players. This tournament would have been a perfect time to blood some fresh faces- yet they went for experience (which at times looked tired). Their was an over reliance on it in fact. You look at Australia and they have the perfect balance of youth and big game players. NZ on the other side of the scale, lacking in experience, but with key new players playing an important role with the the “senior” members.

Jamaica look strong an slick- Robs influence is great. They are finally living to their potential.

Australia- well, this win looks to excel them into a new era of dominance. Scary thought.

NZL- lots of work to do. However, they are rich in so many players to choose from, both experience and youth. The advantage nz has over the top 3- everyone else picked the strongest players available give or take 1 or 2- silver ferns left half their best players at home. The fact this team was able to medal, without key players- you put them back in, and suddenly they look an excellent chance at defending their World Cup title.

Eng- Again have the right players. Something not clicking though. Need to sort it fast because South Africa on home soil at worlds will be hard to beat.

Nah they had a miserable 2018- which saw them lose to England 3 times, Jamaica 3 times, and Australia which felt like 100 times ? was also the first time in a decade they had more losses than wins- and that reflected in their ranking going into the NWC 2019 :

            Here’s some stats;

            – Australia’s Gold- Their first MAJOR title in 7 years (NWC 2015)

            – Jamaica’s best podium finish at a major tournament

            – The first gold medal match not featuring the reigning Commonwealth or World Champions. (ENG, NZL)

            – Just the second time a 4th ranked team (Jam) has made it to the gold playoff. (NZL at NWC ‘19)

            – Australia the first team to come 2nd in pool play, to become champions.

            – First Netball bronze at the games for NZL, the ghosts of the Gold Coast gone.

            – Same result for England like 20 years ago- finish fourth as the host nation. Also their 3rd non podium finish at the games, other being Glasgow ‘14.

Can Australia finally break their runner up tag- or will this be their 3rd second place finish?? Interesting. At least they will know how every other team has felt at major tournaments especially the ferns ?

To Aussie fans- is that a failure in your eyes, if they don’t secure gold? To end this 2nd place streak?? Or is it more of a case of world netball getting more competitive? Should they be winning these golds? Hey at least your in those matches.. you could be England right now…

Yay! I was absolutely writing off the silver flops today- but I’m so happy for them!! Throughly deserved that win. Nweke will only grow from this. Heffernan totally earned her spot, something that’s been hard to say about their midcourt post Langman. Great game congrats girls. They actually have a chance in the series later this year ? Like England I expect some retirement announcements from some players, so they can leave with their head held high-ish.

But WOW did England blow this one! Like everyone has said- the attitudes on some of the roses is something. Especially Gusgoth. Really annoying. Like someone said the crowd gaslights them and which leads to this. Lessons learned. Sad for Eboni and Stacey they don’t get to cap their careers on a better note.

                Go JAMAICA ?

Cant believe I’m saying this: but Mes needs to start at GA to do a Mystics- I.e biff the ball to Nweke. She’s Literally the only one that looks in a throws the ball to her. Even if her shooting is atrocious- her movement around the court is also needed. No need to shoot when you can have Grace do all that ?

Oh Geva, watch this influence the way it’s umpired tonight ? England should be too good though. There desperately missing Serena in that mid court.

I definitely think half this ferns team will go after this campaign, regardless of if they win tonight. They’ve been completely outplayed against the top teams, not just at the games but in the quad series as well.

Their last win was the first match in the English series last year- since then there’s been 8 matches against top 5 sides, only winning 2 against SA.

Crampton is a bench player imo.. Eke needs to come back as captain, the confidence she instills in her teammates is what the need right now. Overhaul the mid court and defensive, surprisingly I feel the shooting end minus Mes is strong enough.

I think Australia will reverse the result from yesterday and win gold. Jamaica have played brilliantly, but Australia showed their still the worlds best. They won’t let this slip.
As for the bronze- i really can’t see how NZ are suppose to medal. 1 bad performance fine it happens, 2 in a row, there’s a pattern emerging. It will absolutely shock me now if they come away with a win.

Here’s the thing with England, Jamaica and Australia, aside from one or two exceptions, they’ve picked the best players they possibly could have. These squads are likely gonna be unchanged come WC. NZ, half the team is at home watching this horror show ?
For them it’s really whether to they have enough time to form those connections. Even if the ferns win bronze (which they won’t), half this team gone by the end of the campaign. Good riddance

Yeah nz have no chance at medaling, and don’t deserve too. 2 utter embarrassing matches. Noel’s take the blame and learn from it please. Fitness can only carry you so far before form comes into play. Crampton isn’t Captain material let alone a starting WA.

This whole thing of not picking form players because the played a more man on man approached- it annoyed me than and annoys me now cause we needed some of that yesterday and today. Players like Gordon and Manu’a were overlooked because of her “zone” approach. Look how well that turned out ? Dunn and and half the Pulse team would have done a better job. I expect their names their come con cup and Jam series. We need aggression in our defensive end- Mene, Davu, Scanlan, de bruin, Kopua, Faka, Watson all have that- the current play almost too cleanly.

Oh well, good news is, I see a redemption arch brewing for the ferns ? circa 2019.

Yeah same- Fitzpatrick is just not effective against these taller shooters. I think Jury is being saved for impact, as well as Nweke. Those 2 can change the dynamic of the game quickly.

Wilson had some nice games against sterling the last time they met, although she obviously missing Eke in front.

@TB I love the optimism. I still believe this team can medal. If they can get past JAM, then I could care less about the the gold medal result, because they’ll be walking away will a medal around their necks. More than what most people expected- Jamaica are on an incredible high, and have all the momentum.

Australia have the most to lose now, honestly. I think humbling themselves and realising bronze is a prospect and that’s okay- and they only need to look at NZL disaster of a campaign last time round.

I’m predicting: Either NZl and Aus final/ with Aussie taking gold
Jam/ England Bronze: Jam shocking England in the final

Or rematches for both teams only Eng/NZ gold while Aus/Jam battle for bronze.

I’m being a bit too opmistic about the ferns chances huh ?

I can almost see Noel’s grinning at this result. I mean she certainly wanted the win, but they’ve now avoided a semi with Aus.The diamonds probably wanted the ferns to win because they know the can beat them come finals, and now there’s a real possibility they don’t even play for gold.

Ferns now get the “easier” semi. Hoping the experience against Maw, Uganda T&T will prepare them well against Jam. In saying that, 10 goal loss is pretty terrible. Some serious analysis needed.

Whilst I can easily have seen the Diamond beat the ferns in the semis- if they meet on the bronze I can almost see the ferns take it.

Just Australia’s 4th loss in Games history. JAM came very close to upsetting them in 2006 in pool play, this time they get the business done. Obviously their first 3 to NZL in ‘06 and 10, and England in ‘18.

The teams that have won pool play, have gone onto the gold medal match.

NZ have games history on their side beating England all but once, in 2018. While England hold the upper had in recent encounters.

This could quickly turn into an ugly campaign for Aus, very quickly. If England win today, they will know what’s needed to win against the diamonds with their recent history.

That fact we might get the gold medal match everyone was expecting in the semis ?

Even more, we could see a England/ JAM final, and a Aus/NZL bronze is just ???
